On my Twitter timeline this morning,this other girl had tweeted: "We Libras love attention". And then got to thinking: A lot of people like to hide behind their star signs. Just because you were born in a certain time-frame doesn't mean you have to be "easily angered and stubborn" by default. A lot of people in this world don't own up to their own bad traits.

Being a sapiosexual and thus naturally inquisitive, I turned to google. I wanted to know what other traits people attribute to their star signs. The answer was on a Yahoo forum. And it was by somebody named Haifa ♊•♋. Here is what he/she said:

Aries: easily angered, too competitive, has to be right all the time and controlling.
Taurus: possessive, greedy, stubborn, lazy, explosive and jealous.
Gemini: not two-faced but more like "multiple personalities", fickle, flirty, superficial, cunning, easily bored, restless and tense.

Capricorn: too serious, strict, workaholics, grudging, miserly, pessimistic and unspontaneous.
Aquarius: aloof, unemotional, detached, perverse, contrary, unpredictable, cold, and loners.
Pisces: too much fantasies, idealistic, escapist, easily-led, secretive, too-sensitive, always seems to be "lost" and easily hurt.

If my Leo male friends were to see this, they would have a "valid" reason for being sex addicts. So if me and my woman conceive a child today, he/she will probably be born sometime in July. Making the baby: Cancer. Making the poor baby "clingy, changeable, over-emotional, needy, moody and living in the past" just because... Aaargh, please man

True Religion

This Miss Understood that Religion was an invisible divide. So her only flaw was having an apartment floor filled with True Religion. Jeans more than genes her Mother gave her. Diesels gave her fuel but in her True Religion she fit in. True Religion,we call it expensive taste. Plate collection time, she tells you the price and it brings you to your knees. True Religion and the broke bitches pray for a pair. But this Miss Understood. Like a rare disease and she's the only that gets it. Quite shocking,like a chapter of Revelations. You buy someone a pair and they give you that Corinthians 13 type-love. You buy blue jeans for this blue blood and she tells you "No thanks, I have enough till Judgment Day". Can't call her a dirty hoe, she's cleaner than an India Arie song. No profanity,she stays True to her Religion. You say you are a stallion in bed but her shirts say Polo and her car is a Ferrari so that's the only Horse-power she needs.

You thought she was shallow till you asked her about her True Religion and she said: "If God was one of us, we wouldn't spend time living our lives fully but all trying to get closer to the man we love the most. Only to criticize his invention once given the chance. You don't know the inventor of the PlayStation still you love it. Maybe because of all the games it let's you play. Boys will be boys. Please let me be, its hard playing a game you don't know the rules of. Worse still,what is the score and who keeps it?"

A Saturday in Blue Valley

I spent a Saturday in beautiful Blue Valley Golf and Country Estate. These are just some of the photos I took at an Uncle's house. He is an Electrical Engineer by profession and I can't help but think that my life will be surrounded by such beauty as long as I continue to make the right decisions and learn from my mistakes and those of others. From a Grand Piano, a Wine collection that would make connoisseurs smile with delight to R49 874 oriental carpets from the Heriz Gallery in Fourways, this house is filled with masterpieces.

I urge you to dream big. It costs nothing to do and almost everything not to.

No, Its Not Okay

Ralph Lauren, Diesel, Lacoste, Takeshy Kurosawa, Louis Vuitton and Ed Hardy. These are just some of the few name brands that people have been driven to refrain from buying because so many counterfeits exist.

Personally I feel that it shouldn't matter if the brand is being faked or not when you know that you are wearing the real deal. It just disappoints me that some people would disrespect designers and fashion houses like that. Or even their bodies for that matter. In my student days, I remember coming to Johannesburg and finding some Guess Jeans on display at the market. Grabbing a pair and entering the make-shift fitting room,I put on the pair. Sure it felt comfortable and roomy for a skinny jean,but it felt itchy and irksome as well. Needless to say,I didn't buy it. Why should I spend R300 on junk when I could easily buy a pair of jeans at Mr Price for half the money? You get a great pair of jeans on your next date and some change to get a new t-shirt and some milkshakes. Think about it.


You don't buy a Diesel jean because its expensive - would R100 condoms wouldn't sell? You buy Diesel jeans because i) you love being unique and these high-end jeans you are wearing are the only ones in that size in the store (every store gets one size of each pair). ii) you love how the material never seems to whither or wear no matter how many times you wash it iii) you deserve the best and your heart is happy.

People love beautiful things but don't have the patience for them. They will tell you: "These items are the same. Just because these ones are cheaper doesn't mean the others are any better." At this point I simply ask: "Is that sweater also made of Cashmere?"

Einstein Favorites - Birth of Venus

This is and has always been my favorite painting (nothing to do with the soft nudity, really) - Sandro Botticelli's Birth of Venus holds a special place in my heart. A place that even Da Vinci's work can't touch. I am not an artist nor am I well-versed with paintings and their elements. First day of Spring was a bit windy so I decided to throw a blazer over my outfit. Had to change shirts to a plain one as the blazer is pin-striped and so it would be difficult to pull-it off with anything else. You don't want people looking at you and getting dizzy all of a sudden.

For a dash of personal-style and flair, I pulled the blazer's sleeves up to reveal my shirt's plaid sleeves. =)

Cape Town Glory

 Remembering the good times always helps me with my Monday blues. A memory I have chosen to rewind today is my touchdown in CT July 28th of last year. The Mango ride was not so bad,but it being my first flight and all,I'm guessing its just because I didn't know better *embarrassed*. As a warm-welcome,we(me, my Sister and her friend Lebo) hailed a cab and I got acquainted with CT nightlife: off to Cubana Greenpoint we went. It was something I can't quite put in words,just a perfect mix of cultures and an inviting dance floor.

It served as a warm-welcome and a great goodbye as we hit it the night before I left. Almost missed my flight,wouldn't have heard the pilot saying: "This is a non-smoking flight. If we find you smoking,we will ask you to leave the plane IMMEDIATELY. Seriously though,we will fine you R7000.00. And for these prices, you could be flying SAA". #epic. Not even the Asian chick attempting the booty-hop at Kennedy's Dubliner could top that.

The Prayer I Will Never Forget

What I am about to share now is a prayer by my favorite author, Paulo Coelho. I do not like using people's work in my blog but I truly believe that this I have to share as it might change people's lives as much as it has changed mine. This touches my heart and it is the prayer I will never forget, ironically enough it is called "The prayer that I forgot" by Paulo. Here it is:

Pursuit of Happy-ness

Many think of HAPPY-NESS as a feeling and because we do,it turns out to be a temporary state. Only when we think of HAPPY-NESS as a destination do we see the bigger picture. And those who have seen it wil tell you that HAPPY-NESS can be a permanent state. Children enjoy all kinds of weather, they are always HAPPY with what goes on around them. If we are all GOD's children,then the logic here is quite simple - GOD wants us all to be HAPPY, permanently. He has scatterd us through-out this world, not to have us suffer, but to get used to the kind of HAPPY-NESS that we are one day,going to enjoy in Paradise. Because there are greater things that await us there than HAPPY-NESS. So what makes us unique as humans? The different paths we take to reach HAPPY-NESS. All roads lead to Rome but some are more treacherous than others, shorter with big obstacles, longer with valuable lessons. Some just lead to a dead-end. You need to choose your own way and make your own mistakes, that's what mkes life so complicated. But along each way, HAPPY-NESS comes in many forms. Yes, you passed matric, your mum bought a new car, your father got a promotion and you were told you were beautiful. All this lasts for a short time...

But it's all necessary. It is GOD's way of making sure you don't give up on your quest for eternal HAPPY-NESS. Paulo Coelho would call this Beginner's luck: "When you are playing cards for the first time,you are almost sure to win. There is a force that wants you to realise your destiny. It whets your appetite with a taste of success". The paths I want to discuss in great detail are: Religion, Love and Inner peace. But this is merely an introduction, and I shall deal with those later. For now,let us explore THE SECRET OF HAPPY-NESS.

What's in a name? Since the beginning of time, children have been given names in the hopes that they can live up to them. A good name has been believed to confer a blessing towards the child.

But nowadays, you find a girl named "Bontle" who wouldn't make it past the auditions in a beauty pageant or a boy named "Innocent" who has seen the bars of a prison from the wrong side too many times.

It is not often that you get people who live up to their names. And from the dictionary definition extract, you start to think that there isn't anybody in the world today who can live up to the name "Precious" right? Wrong! I have had the pleasure of knowing one.

A girl who makes every moment her moment,a Precious moment.

A girl who takes her time as her name suggests: Precious.

A girl who appreciates each breath as a Precious gift from God.

A girl who is so Precious, I could write about her all day if only her name didn't tell you everything about her already.

Status Update

3 painful things in love: 1. Right love at the wrong time. 2. Being in love with someone you just know wouldn't last. 3. Loving someone who loves another.

You know,your status update got me thinking. It might say 3 days ago but its message still reverberates in my ears to this minute. I'm sorry to trouble you with my problems,I know you weren't applying for a post as a shrink when you hit "Share" but you got a chance to tell "What's on your mind",please grant me the platform to do the same. *sigh* Right love at the wrong time. Right love at the wrong time.

See,here's what I went through: I fell in love with a bright girl who knew what she wanted from life and just what she needed to do to get where she wanted to be. We had our magic moments. I always knew that her and I were polar and it fascinated me to see the two of us trying to make it work. Honey-sweet kisses. Awesome hugs. Cute pet-names. We had it all. We were happy until it was time for careers to commence and semesters to begin. The START of those two things marked the END of a great love. A love reminiscent of Romeo + Juliet and Cleopatra + Anthony. We almost had it all.

But then again,I think it was the wrong love at the right time actually,which is why the flame seemed so powerful,rich and intense at first but in the end: much to the disappointment of every hopeful witness' eye - it was but a small spark in a world full of darkness.

P.S. But even my story has a happy ending. See,in the absence of love,the world appears dark. Until a new love comes along. Or in my case,until you realize you can't see love's light if your eyes are closed shut in fear of seeing the pain false love brings to the people in the world around you. Pardon me. False love? If it hurts,it wasn't even love to begin with. Open your eyes. And see the light that was always shining before you. Open your eyes!!! The eternal flame you seek,the love of your life,your...your soul-mate,is but a kiss away.

August Sisters

 I can only imagine what turning 21 feels like. Especially turning 21 in the 21st century - where youths are getting shot at or "living life on the edge". They never get to witness the miracle called "growing up". In the past years,you had been "growing old",with no care in the world. Growing old is a given now,growing up is a choice you have to make.

Leave the mind-games behind. Tricks are for kids..But if you are ever forced to play,do so on your own terms. Dictate your life's direction. With birthdays, and this one in particular, a lot of responsibility is resting on your shoulders. Everybody is looking at you to see how you handle the freedom and make the most of the pleasures at your disposal. You might not want this pressure,but hey: Birthdays are good for you. The more you have,the longer you live.

Ralph Lauren Crests

 Crests used to be very common in the olden days. People would brazen family crests into the doors of their home - marking territory or showing how proud they are of their heritage. I love fashion because it only exists because reality does. Fashion designer take months and sometimes years to develop something and then almost immediatley, trends are set. So when a high-end designer like Ralph Lauren takes the bold step of implementing crests on formal blazers, you know that it has become serious business.

Personally, i love the one above as it is a crest-pin which is not sewn into the blazer but rather, bought separately and pinned to the garment you want it on. It is perfect as it offers you the chance to put it on when you are going to have lunch with a few friends and take it off when you are leaving the friends behind to close off a business deal with a prospective customer that very day.

Bold fashion statement or free-advertising (they do scream RALPH LAUREN don't they)?
